Action Needed on Drink Spiking Following High Profile Conviction, Says Irvine

Aontú representative for the Colin area, Peter Irvine, has raised concerns following the conviction of serial rapist Zhenhao Zou, highlighting the urgent need to address the dangers of drink spiking.

Mr. Irvine stated: “The conviction of Zhenhao Zou for his horrific crimes has once again highlighted the disturbing reality of drug-assisted sexual violence. With more than 50 potential victims still unidentified, it is clear that predators like Zou pose a serious threat to public safety. While there is currently no evidence that any offences were committed in Belfast, his time as a student at Queen’s University raises serious concerns about whether universities and institutions are doing enough to tackle the issue of drink spiking and predatory behaviour.

“This case is a reminder that we cannot afford to be complacent. There is an urgent need for stronger protections against spiking and greater institutional accountability to prevent crimes like this from happening in the first place.”
